St Just Mining District Photo's

Wheal Hermon, St Just, Cornwall

Surface View

Wheal Hermon is one of the oldest recorded mines in the St Just Mining District. The lodes outcrop on the forshore and in the cliffs where in many places they have been worked open to surface. There is a through trip (going in through one hole and coming out through another!) through rather dangerous ground lots of hanging deads stacks and uncertain floors, not for the inexperienced (or sensible!). This mine was worked below the forshore and there has been much speculation about what may be left behind it has been prospected several times during this century most recently during the late 1960's early 70's.
