We would be pleased to advise CDT teachers who are planning to start pewter casting projects, we are happy to do this via e-mail or by telephone with no obligation to buy from us. UK schools can get 14 days credit on official orders emailed, faxed or posted to us.
Pewter is an ideal metal for school casting projects, the modern alloy is lead free and is cast at a low enough temperature to allow casting into a variety of simple mould materials (usually less than 300°C. The cast item usually needs further finishing and can be polished to a bright silver like finish or satin or textured finishes can produce an item with a quality appearance. Whilst Pewter casting is usually undertaken to produce decorative items it can also be used to cast small runs of components for other projects (as long as due condideration is given to strength limitations, although these can be overcome in some situations by casting around stronger materials such as steel).
A wide variety of mould materials can be used with pewter, many schools use MDF often machined using cad cam techniques.
